Abstract

Good governance, an essential foundation for achieving sustainable development and enhancing social welfare, is predicated on social capital and political trust. Contemporary political systems worldwide face increasing challenges stemming from the decline of social capital and distrust in political institutions, which jeopardize the efficiency, effectiveness, and legitimacy of governance. This research, aiming to address these challenges, seeks to address the question: How can good governance be strengthened in Islamic societies by enhancing social capital and political trust? The primary objective is to elucidate the pivotal role of this enhancement in consolidating good governance and to identify practical strategies and effective policies. This study analyzes the topic using an integrated theoretical framework comprising social network theory, rational choice theory, and institutionalism. The research methodology is based on secondary analysis of data from reputable international surveys and a systematic meta-analysis of relevant scientific literature. The findings indicate that high social capital and strong political trust are essential preconditions for achieving good governance, active public participation, reduced corruption, and sustainable development. Institutional, cultural, economic, and political factors play a decisive role in the formation and evolution of social capital and political trust in various societies. Emphasizing the growing importance of these two vital factors, this research offers a set of recommendations for their reinforcement, including reforming the governance system, enhancing transparency and accountability, developing civic education, strengthening grassroots organizations, promoting social and economic justice, bolstering national media, and advancing e-governance
