Abstract

Objective: The social capital of faculty members plays a key role in the success of the university. Farhangian University can improve its scientific assets, creativity, work processes, organizational excellence, and knowledge authority by improving its social capital. Given the gap in understanding the mechanisms for strengthening social capital in the academic context, the aim of the present study was to identify the factors affecting the improvement of the social capital of Farhangian University professors. Method: The present study is of an applied type based on its purpose and was a mixed (qualitative-quantitative) data collection method with a deductive-inductive approach. The research population in the qualitative section was all experts and scholars in the field of human resource management and familiar with the field of social capital at Farhangian University, of which 18 people were selected as the research sample using purposeful snowball sampling. The statistical population in the quantitative stage was all employees, faculty members, and instructors of Farhangian University, of which 256 people were selected using the cluster sampling method based on the Morgan table. In order to collect qualitative data, semi-structured interviews were used, and for quantitative data, a researcher-made questionnaire was used. The reliability of the interview data was confirmed by the participant feedback method, and the validity of the interviews was confirmed by the agreement coefficient and test-retest method. Also, the content validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts, and the reliability of the questionnaire was obtained using the Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.89. In order to analyze the data, open and axial coding methods were used in the qualitative part, and descriptive analysis, correlation analysis, and structural equation analysis (second-order confirmatory factor analysis) methods were used in the quantitative part. Findings: The results showed that the factors affecting the improvement of the social capital of Farhangian University faculty members, in order of importance and factor loading, are: training and improvement (0.975), communication and interaction (0.956), structural (0.954), growth orientation (0.937), trust (0.937), development of leadership and management skills (0.936), and cooperation and teamwork (0.922). Conclusion: The results of the study show that training and improvement and strengthening of communication are the most key factors in improving the social capital of faculty members. These findings emphasize the need for systematic attention to professional development and networking in university policy-making, and Farhangian University can contribute to the social capital of professors by improving the work environment, enhancing the quality of education and research, and promoting a culture of cooperation and participation.
